[Despite Blackwatch's efforts to clean up the American Southwest, the politics of the world tend to be a pendulum--no one knows that better than Jack Morrison. The story of the rise and fall and rise of the Deadlock Gang is mirrored all over the world, as the push and pull of international crime swings back and forth. Overwatch was able to achieve some sort of peace for a long time, but now that it's over, less-than-savory organizations are creeping back to the forefront—only this time, there's nothing standing in their way.

Helix does an all right job of maintaining the old Watchpoints, 76 thinks, but they're a private security company, and he doesn't necessarily trust their ulterior motives. Ultimately, he’s not surprised that Deadlock managed to retake the region, even after Overwatch removed McCree from the equation. It's been quite a few years, which is plenty of time for a notorious gang to get back on its feet, especially in the last few years, with the void left by Overwatch's shutdown.

So 76 knows, perhaps more intimately than most, that he's walking into a bad situation.

Something like that has never stopped him before. It's quicker to cross through New Mexico on his way to Dorado from Grand Mesa, and he's better equipped than the past few weeks, now that he has a pulse rifle again. He decides to take his chances, first stowing away on trains and then making his way further and further south on foot. Border's only a few days away, but he has to go slow so as not to bring attention to himself. Easier said than done when the landscape is so flat, but he makes do. Passing through a quiet town at night gives him some cover, though he doesn't doubt that Deadlock...and maybe others...has eyes on him by now.

Suffice to say, he's fully expecting to be jumped on his way through this territory--especially at night, especially in a quiet desert town like this. His scanner picks up a few shapes, likely people in the buildings or milling around outside, and he takes care to avoid them accordingly. He knows he shouldn't linger, but when he rounds a corner and finds what's clearly some kind of a shipment with the logo of a military contractor on the side, his curiosity gets the better of him.

He'll just take a quick look, to make sure it isn't the wrong things in the wrong hands.--it'll only take a minute, and then he'll be gone.]

PERSONALITY:
Jack Morrison was, at one point, charismatic and celebrated, a renowned and well-liked military commander noted for his moral fiber and uncanny talent for unifying conflicting personalities into a cohesive fighting force. Over the course of two decades, he uses his position to expand Overwatch beyond its original military purpose, rebuilding in the wake of a nearly apocalyptic crisis, championing international peace, and fostering groundbreaking developments in science and technology. During this time, he's widely regarded as someone the whole world could really and truly call a hero—which they did. Though we’re given only brief glimpses of the man he used to be, it’s clear that he was competent, compassionate, and thoroughly invested in his cause, never losing sight of the faith placed in him by the world at large.

It’s difficult, however, to live on a pedestal. Already duty-bound and self-sacrificing by nature, Jack pursues Overwatch’s mission at the expense of almost everything else, including, in one instance, a nation’s sovereignty. Where Jack was unwaveringly devoted to a grander vision of world peace, 76 is shellshocked, paranoid, burdened by his failure, and fully committed to uncovering the truth of how things went so wrong—or maybe just exacting retribution for it.

His general demeanor is gruff, blunt, and sardonic. He’s able to perform superhuman physical feats and maintains a kind of homeostasis that helps him adapt to harsh environments. He can take physical punishment beyond what can be withstood by a normal human, and bounces back from injury faster with an accelerated healing factor (not Wolverine fast, though—think a few hours). However, his enhancements have been shown to falter under the influence of a debilitating biological agent, and generally speaking it’s implied that he’s become less able with age.
● Training - Advanced military, arms, and special/covert ops training. This is a dude with extensive tactical knowledge and experience with a wide range of martial arts styles and weaponry, who helped end the robot uprising by carrying out a series of highly technical and very dangerous asymmetrical military operations. His weapon of choice is an assault rifle tailored to graduates of the SEP, and he’s a skilled marksman even without his auto-targeting tactical visor.

As he weighs his ability to end a hostage situation against respecting a nation's sovereignty, it's clear that securing world peace at the expense of his own wants and needs has taken its toll on him. Still, he acts as a thoughtful and measured leader, allowing his subordinates to voice their opinions on the matter and carefully considering the risk of further eroding the world's trust in him.

Ultimately, he intervenes because he has the ability to save lives, which to him means there was never really a choice at all. His penchant for self-sacrifice is evident once more, as he knows the decision does not come without consequence. Why this path?: For all of 76’s ennui and questionable methodology, he can’t quite shake the hero thing. Spending more than three decades fighting for peace, justice, and a better world is not easily forgotten, and I enjoy the idea of 76 having to reconcile that core of himself with his new reckless and often violent tendencies. Despite his concentrated efforts to divorce himself from the man he used to be, a part of him is still fully devoted to doing the right thing. Since he’s at an arguably low point, filling the role of a righteous protector once again will force him to confront his own failures, accept them, and eventually realize that despite his past shortcomings, he can continue to be a legitimate force for good. There's more of Jack Morrison left than he'd like to admit, and by choosing this path he’ll have to come to terms with that.

[All in all, things could have gone much worse.

Null Sector was stopped. The hostages are safe and King's Row is liberated. Things are back in the hands of the British government, and their little four-person team has returned to headquarters. They've been debriefed, and the mission was, arguably, a success. Despite that apparent fact, Jack has been fielding phone calls from Petras and the Prime Minister and all manner of people who are now extremely angry with him. He expects to be brought up on charges sooner rather than later, but right now it's late, and the calls have all fallen silent.

Jack is going to take advantage of the precious few hours of peace while he can--there will be meetings and interviews and press conferences in the morning, but for now he has a six pack and he's on his way to Ana's office, because after today they probably deserve a break.

He knows she's up, because the two of them hardly ever sleep, to say nothing of trying to rest after a day like today. Still, he's not rude about it, knocking on her door and waiting for the answer before holding up the beer, shrugging a little.]

Thought we could use this.

[A sort of modest congratulations, maybe, while they have the opportunity. Before all of the nitty-gritty of the mission comes out. Despite what the worlds' governments will say tomorrow, they can't deny that Overwatch saved lives today. That's something to celebrate.]

PHYSICAL INFORMATION:
76 was genetically augmented in his late teens/early twenties as part of an experimental US government "soldier enhancement program" and has retained these abilities in Balance. As a result, he has greatly increased strength, speed, agility, stamina, and durability. He's able to perform superhuman physical feats and maintains a kind of homeostasis that helps him adapt to harsh environments. He can take punishment beyond what can be withstood by a normal human, and bounces back from injury faster with an accelerated healing factor. However, his enhancements have been shown to falter under the influence of a debilitating biological agent, and generally speaking it's implied that he's become less able with age.

Still, he's an incredibly capable combatant, with decades of advanced military, arms and special/covert ops training. In combination with his genetically enhanced physiology, this makes him a force to be reckoned with in a one-on-one (or five-on-one) fight. Or any kind of fight. He’s described in-universe by people who got on the wrong end of his fists as “[…] a professional. Confident. Surgical”.

MENTAL INFORMATION:
War is hell. 76 has PTSD, bad coping mechanisms, and betrayal-related trauma. He's an expert compartmentalizer, but his goal-driven mindset has become self-destructive paranoia and obsession. Tries very, very hard to dissociate from the man he used to be and the ideals he once championed. Fighting is the only thing he feels he can do.
