If for some reason the timer doesn't wake someone up or if there's an emergency, just tip that person out of their chair. The shift in gravity is called a "kick"; it'll trigger inner-ear function and they'll wake up.
Everyone should have something called a totem on them. If they wake up ahead of time, you might need to remind them it exists.
